The roads were only fair, but 15 cowpokes made the trip to Darnall’s for today’s McLean County Peacemakers February indoor match. Another match completed in record time, started at 9am, finished at 11am. We’re not trying to rush shooters, but being ready when called and efficient brass pickup really makes it move along. Thanks to all who setup on Friday and put it away on Saturday.
Clean shooters were: Katy Twoshots, Tomahawk Johnson, Okie Pete and Marshal RD. Long Fingers paced the match (69.03 sec), followed by Comstock Charley and Dangerous Dan McGrew. Detailed scoresheets below.
Our next match will be indoors on March19. If the weather and ground conditions are much better than usual, we could be outdoors in March. We’re all looking forward to outdoor shooting again in April.
The Annie Oakley Award Plaque is ready for its first Name. There are 18 name plates on it. This is for the ladies only. The winner will have the most clean shoots each year from September through August. This is the same period as the “Hank T Bullwacker Award” which will now be for the Men’s winner for 2022. SASS defines a clean shoot as “No Misses and No Procedurals”. We have been keeping score on everyone since September. Right now, it is anyone’s award. In case of ties, we post both names on a plate. The plaque will hang on the wall at Darnall’s next to the men’s award.
We had 20 cowpersons (how PC can I get?) at our January match today, including a father & son pair of new shooters. Welcome Dakota Tim and Grey-Eyed Rider. Another efficient match time-wise, were out of there by noon.
Top three for the match were: Flaming Star, Comstock Charley, and Dangerous Dan McGrew. Clean shooters: Flaming Star, Marshal RD and Tomahawk Johnson.
Our next indoor match will be on Saturday, February 19. Let’s all hope for good travel weather. We lucked out this month with only 1″ of new snow on the ground around Bloomington.
Our indoor match on the 18th had 17 contestants shooting 5 stages. Stages were pretty easy except number 5, written by The Grinch to include a 1-shot pistol reload for a 10-second bonus upon hitting rifle target #4. Almost everyone succeeded in hitting the bonus.
The top three finishers in order are: Long Fingers, Comstock Charley, and Dangerous Dan McGrew.
Clean shooters are: Tomahawk Johnson, Missouri Sunshine, Long Fingers and Comstock Charley.
The match was completed in only 2 hours and 5 minutes with the efficient preparation of the shooters. Thanks to all who helped with the teardown and setup.
Announced at the match, our new club website will be created by Dangerous Dan McGrew, who volunteered to be webmaster. The URL will be unchanged.
Our January match will be on the 15th (2022!!). Hope to see everyone in the New Year. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the PeacemakersComstock Charley
The McLean County Peacemaker’s Club organizes monthly cowboy action shooting matches reminiscent of the wild west of the late 1800’s. The events are governed by the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) and are open to anyone who can handle firearms safely regardless of gender, shooting skills, or age (parental supervision is required for all competitors under 21 years of age). Every match provides entrants with fun shooting challenges, a chance to practice their shooting skills, and an opportunity to build friendships among people with common interests.
